The Curtin University Western Australian Centre for Health Promotion
(WACHPR) is a multi-disciplinary centre within the Division of Health
Science at Curtin University. It operates within the School of Public
Health and is closely aligned with the Health Promotion Academic
Program.
The WACHPR has achieved national and international recognition
for its work in school and community-based intervention research,
especially in the areas of injury control, drug use and mental health.
The WACHPR is acknowledged as an innovative and active contributor
to national and international health promotion research, education
and training.
The WACHPR has conducted applied research and provided consultancy
evaluation, education, training and curriculum support services
to government and non-government health and education organisations
throughout Australia and internationally since 1986.
The WACHPR staff has expertise in data collection and analyses,
behavioural science, intervention development and dissemination,
and qualitative and quantitative program (formative, process and
impact) evaluation.
In recent years the WACHPR has been devoted to bringing together
staff and students interested in being involved in applied health
promotion research and training. The WACHPR employs over 15 professional
and support staff, and has an active pool of over 60 trained student
volunteers who have worked on research projects in the School of
Public Health building at Curtin University of Technology, Bentley
Campus.
Purpose

Conduct
high quality applied research. The WACHPR is currently conducting
numerous longitudinal intervention research projects addressing
the priority areas of injury control, drug use control and
mental health. Over the past 10 years the WACHPR has attracted
and successfully completed over A$5m in research grants and
tenders.

Provision
of high quality mentoring and training of under-graduate and
post-graduate students and researchers. Over 330 graduate
and undergraduate students have volunteered, been employed
and/or completed a higher degree as part of the WACHPR research
activities.

Provision
of high level expertise in the design, planning, dissemination,
implementation and evaluation of quality health promotion
programs and services.
